Renys Damariscotta - “The Birthplace of Renys”

Damariscotta, in Lincoln County, is the birthplace of Renys. Our original Main Street store – opened in October 1949 – and Renys Underground still offer a Maine shopping adventure every day!

Settled in the 1640s, this charming Midcoast Maine village sits on the banks of the Damariscotta River, linked with its Twin Village, Newcastle, by the Main Street Bridge. Damariscotta has long been known as the oyster capital of New England, with 80% of Maine’s farmed oysters coming from the Damariscotta River. The town’s brickyards once supplied most of the bricks used to build Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, and its shipyards built and launched clipper ships in the 1800s.

Damariscotta offers unique shops to explore, historic sites to visit, and more delicious local food than you can eat in a day. Check into a cozy bed and breakfast if you’ll be in town for a few days. Explore the coastal beauty of Midcoast Maine, and browse unique stops like the Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop or S. Fernald’s Country Store.

Into craft beer? The renowned Oxbow Brewing Company is just across the river in Newcastle. Enjoy locally sourced food at favorite spots like King Eider’s Pub & Restaurant or Shuck Station Raw Bar. Don’t miss dessert at Round Top Ice Cream!
