Renys Topsham

The Topsham Renys opened in 2011. Slightly inland from the nearby Midcoast area, Topsham sits at the mouth of the Androscoggin River, beside Merrymeeting Bay, in Sagadahoc County.

With the first sawmill built on the Cathance River in 1716 and the town incorporated in 1764, Topsham saw early success with shipbuilding and lumber mills. Water power from Pejepscot Falls fueled industries like a watch factory, a shingle mill, a pitchfork factory, a marble works, and two feldspar quarries. The Topsham Fairgrounds were built in 1856 and the Topsham Fair is still an annual event. Carefully constructed tunnels discovered in Topsham and neighboring Brunswick are believed to be remnants of a section of the Underground Railroad, linking local safe houses.

Today, Topsham is a great place to live and a lovely spot to stop on your Maine adventure. Stock up at Renys, grab a bite at local restaurants, take a walk along the Cathance or Androscoggin River, or catch the Topsham Fair in August.
